In order to give some minimum benefits and reliefs to the employees of unorganized sector; every business entity must get itself registered under the Shops & Establishment Act of the state government, if applicable in the state, wherein they have a place of business. The Shops & Establishment Act has been enacted to regulate working hours, opening and closing times, obligations of employer and employees, rest and intervals, rules for employment for children, women and young persons, rules for annual leave, maternity leave, sickness and casual leaves, rules for employment and termination of services etc.

Every business including any shop, commercial establishment, residential hotel, restaurant, theatre, public amusement and retail trade or business is mandatorily required to register itself under the Shops and Establishment Act within 30 days of commencement of work. In case of closure of business, the concerned department must be informed about the closure within 15 days of closure of business.

  • No Supporting documents are required to be filed with the application for allotment of TAN, but it is advisable to submit a copy of PAN card along with the application.
  • Total number of male, female and young person employed in the establishment.
  • Date of commencement of establishment.
  • Number of members of employer's family working in the establishment.
